Bug in WB?
Published on May 7, 2011 By MikeO In WindowBlinds

Guys

I am trying to figure out whether it's a bug in Dopus or Windowblinds or even something else..

Can you please  use your favourite wb skin, load up directory opus and perform the following?

a.) In Dopus, go to help/license manager

b.) Click Install New Certificate

c.) Click Load

Does the explorer dialogue paint correctly?

Please let me know your results and version of WB used, thanks!

I think we have to wait for the developer to bring some light into this.

There were some compatibility issues in the long-distant past but as far as I can tell they are all gone.

Leo, that's great news... thank you very much for clearing that up. By its own skins I mean that in DOpus Forums there are various skins available.

When you say "Visual styles" you don't mean an msstyles type "patch", I take it?

The only issue i have it doesn't paint the forward/backward buttons, for the rest i have no issues. Not enough reason not to skin it.

You can't seriously be looking at that and saying, "there's no problem that needs fixing here"

I have a feeling this relates to (or is a leftover from) a fix for an earlier incompatability between the 2 programs. Since DOpus doesn't actually use an "open" dialog it's not easily noticed. I imagine Neil will see this thread and respond.

Truly, Lantec. It's a great piece of software.

*note to self: Do an article about Directory Opus.

Leo, that's great news... thank you very much for clearing that up. By its own skins I mean that in DOpus Forums there are various skins available.

Those skins are just bitmaps (and sometimes some XML that tells Opus where to use them) that get used for the background of certain elements instead of asking the theme to draw the background. Shouldn't cause any problems with Windowblinds.

When you say "Visual styles" you don't mean an msstyles type "patch", I take it?

Opus doesn't patch msstyles at all. What I mean is that to draw things, Opus uses the standard Windows visual styles API, i.e. OpenThemeData, DrawThemeBackground, DrawThemeText, etc.

LeoDavidson....'msstyles' IS the 'patch' ...it's a 'hack' of an MS dll to allow the use of unsigned styles - a breach of the MS EULA....

Windowblinds is like Dopus...it's legit software....

Ah, okay. I thought you meant somehow patching C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\aero.msstyles or similar.

Either way, Opus doesn't modify/patch anything like that.

Thanks, LeoDavidson.

Yes it is. I've been using it so long and have mine so heavily customized I can hardly function with Explorer.

I can hardly function with Explorer.

And I refuse to.

So... Are we any closer to understanding why WB continues to target dopus.exe and what can be done about getting our favorite file manager off of WB's internal blacklist?

So far Neil hasn't responded to this post. He's pretty good about checking the forums, especially after he puts out an update, but he may not have seen it yet.

If you want to be sure he gets the message open a ticket at support@stardock.com and include a link to this thread. The forums are not for "official" support but rather user helping user.

Frankly, I don't have any issues with Dopus/Windowblinds and haven't since I purchased it. I believe I've come across 1 or 2 dialogs that have come up in "Windows Classic" instead of being properly skinned and I remember seeing a thread about a missing vertical scroll bar that I could not reproduce. Nothing so far that has effected the way I use the program. That doesn't mean you shouldn't report it. If it effects the way you use the program then I suggest opening a ticket.

Neil had answered this issue before, its Opus's ends that causes this.

Do you have a link to that thread/reply, Gaspershooters? I'd like to get to the bottom of this question.
